About this deal

It’s all relatively easy to follow – but, unfortunately, I experienced the same problems we saw with the iKettle 2.0. The Smarter iKettle 3rd Generation is a good kettle. It boils water and allows you to adjust the temperature exactly as you like it. The design is simple and minimalistic, allowing you to control from your phone without any flashy manual dials. From here you can use voice controls to use and adjust the iKettle. Saying “OK Google turn on/off the kettle” will power the iKettle on or off. Asking Google to turn up/down the kettle temperature by a certain number of degrees will adjust the boiling temperature. Asking it to set the kettle temperature to a certain degree will start it to boil until it reaches that temperature.

The iKettle is made with several safety features built-in, including a dry boil prevention system. Whenever the iKettle is turned on, the water sensors determine the amount of liquid inside the kettle. If it detects that there isn’t enough water, the iKettle automatically turns off within 16 to 20 seconds and notifies you via the Smarter app.The only way to figure this out is to consult the app, which isn’t convenient if you’re hoping to have Alexa or Google Assistant as your primary control method. You’ll also need to get used to re-filling the kettle between uses. Note that it’s good to get into a routine of adding just enough water for your next boil if you don’t want to waste energy, even if there’s a temptation to keep it topped up all the way. If you’ve been thinking about getting an iKettle, this article will help you make an informed choice. With our comprehensive guide, we’ll show you the ins and outs of the iKettle 3 rd Generation. The iKettle 3.0 uses something called BlinkUP to transfer your wireless network details to the kettle’s base. On its underside is a sensor that can detect the flashes of your smartphone to determine the correct settings – a bit like fancy morse code. Simply tap your network settings into the app, after which it will ask you to hold your screen against the sensor on the base. In the end, I started setting it to a few degrees below the temperature I actually wanted. As with the previous generation, the Smarter iKettle 3.0 is able to at least retain its heat very well.

Note that the light will still blink green even after the reset process, but if you have followed the steps as detailed here, the iKettle 3 rd Gen will still be ready for setup. But a week on from setting up the iKettle 3.0, it works fine. Saying “Alexa, turn on the kettle” has the kettle boiling without any issues – I named the device ‘Kettle’ as it seemed most logical. It’s meant I’ve done away with the Wake Up mode, as I can just ask Alexa to turn on the kettle when I wake – or not, if the occasion dictates. You can also say “Alexa, set the kettle to X degrees” – which, again, is easier than jumping into the app. When connected to a smart home network, the iKettle can detect when you’ve arrived home via your mobile’s signal. If desired, you can have hot water already starting to boil as you walk in the door. The current iKettle is the third-generation of the product produced by a company named Smarter. Smarter is a UK-based smart home gadget manufacturer that produces connected devices for the kitchen. The company started gaining market attention in 2013 when it launched the first-generation of the iKettle. My first attempt didn’t work, but the second managed to get the iKettle 3.0 onto my wireless network and appearing in the app. Performance It’s inevitable that a new model for the iKettle line will eventually be released, but until Smarter announces something, the 3 rd Gen will remain the latest product. Aside from also being able to tell Alexa to turn off the kettle if you decide you don’t want it boiling, that’s it for your voice commands. I really wish the kettle could offer a readout of its capacity; otherwise, you need to keep jumping into the app – or, heaven forbid, get up and manually look inside the kettle to ensure there’s enough water for your next cuppa. Should you buy it? For me, the main selling point of the iKettle 3.0 is its voice assistant support, which wasn’t available in the previous generation Smarter iKettle 2.0. Alongside Alexa and Google Assistant, the iKettle 3.0 can also work with IFTTT recipes, allowing you to be pretty creative. With the iKettle 3 rd Gen, it’s never been easier to fix yourself a hot drink. With the convenience that this feature-rich smart kettle brings, you’ll always have the hot water you need, when you need it.

Although it’s been more than three years since the iKettle launched the 3 rd generation of its iKettle line, there has been no news of the release of a fourth iteration. There’s no doubt that the developers at Smarter are working on designing new ways to improve the current iKettle, but so far, no news has been forthcoming. In my Bosch TWK7203GB Sky Kettle review I was very keen on how easy it was to adjust the temperature using the sliding scale on the base. The same sliding scale can be found on the Smarter app, so while it wasn’t possible to adjust on the kettle itself, all I needed was my phone handy (and let’s be honest, it’s always handy) to set the right temperature for me. The Smarter SMKET01-US Electric iKettle may not be as expensive as many high-end smart kettles on the market, but it’s still a bit pricey. If you’re someone who only rarely drinks hot beverages, or doesn’t have stable Wi-Fi, then the cost may not be worth it. If you’re a coffee or tea aficionado, however, it may be the best thing you’ll ever buy. The iKettle 3rd Gen has a built-in water sensor that sends information to the app to alert you if there’s not enough water in the kettle. With a simple glance at your phone, you can easily decide if the iKettle needs a refill. You can even use the app’s Wake Up Mode to wake you up via an alarm and start boiling water at the same time.Appkettle was once a product that directly competed with iKettle in terms of features and convenience. With its own mobile app and voice control support via Alexa, it was a smart kettle that featured more than just variable temperature settings. Some users have also reported that the iKettle has a tendency to suddenly disconnect from their Wi-Fi network. A stable network connection is needed if you want to enjoy continuous use of the iKettle. But, once it’s properly synced with your smart hub, making hot drinks couldn’t be simpler. You can re-boil another jug full of water then throw that away to make sure no vinegar/lemon juice traces remain. Once done, your iKettle 3 rd Gen should be limescale-free and resume proper boiling. Not yet. Although Smarter has promised to integrate the HomeKit into its app so that it can work seamlessly with the iKettle, they have yet to deliver on that promise. However, the company has developed Siri Shortcut integration with the iKettle that allows customers to use Siri to control the device. To enable Siri Shortcuts on the iKettle, follow these steps: The kettle is quiet, too. I never found it distracting and my phone connection never failed me, so it delivered on the convenience I’d expect from a smart kettle. However, while the Bosch Sky kettle is less smart, it is far nicer to use thanks to the tactile base and visual appeal. It’s also cheaper, so unless you want something you can control remotely, I would suggest opting for the Sky kettle over the iKettle. About this review, and the reviewer
