About this deal

To mark Folio’s 75th anniversary, Michael Ende’s The Neverending Story is published as a magical new edition, beautifully illustrated by award-winning artist Marie-Alice Harel and bursting with exquisite design details. Perfect for fans of all ages, this wonderful collection includes all the original Flower Fairy poems and illustrations by Cicely Mary Barker from the classic books. Originally this book was published as eight individual books, but now it can be enjoyed in a stunning complete collection that tells the tales of those magical beings found in our gardens, who have come to teach us all about flowers.

I've already reviewed all the individual publications contained in this book, so I'll keep this review short and sweet and focused more onhte format details herein. Since the publication of Cicely Mary Barker's first book in 1923, the Flower Fairies have been ethereal companions to generations of readers around the world. Each poem is individually presented on the facing page to its relevant painting, just as in the first editions of Barker’s little volumes, while our font has been carefully selected for its close resemblance to the original. The beautiful artwork is accompanied by the original poetry by Barker, which not only tells you more about the fairy in question, but also shows that painting with poetry is an art form that's no longer as pure as it was. Aside from said drivel, my favourite poems were those for the Bird’s-Foot-Trefoil, Michaelmas Daisy, Snapdragon, Fumitory, Gorse, and Pansy fairies. I've loved the Flower Fairies for as long as I can remember and always thought it was nice that she had both boy and girl fairies.

Presented in a treasury box set that retains all the charm of Beatrix Potter’s originals, this is the perfect gift for any child.Having all the stories compiled in one volume definitely remains handy, though the format wa a touch off putting at times. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. I was ecstatic when I found this book, which is a compilation of many smaller books that Cicely Barker created.

The art is stunning and the poems are sweet and informative without feeling like you are just sitting learning a lesson about plants. She found international acclaim as an artist with her delightful Flower Fairies books the first of which, Flower Fairies of the Spring , was printed in 1923. I think it's the sort of book that you read to your children or grandchildren and it becomes a family heirloom and creates wonderful memories.Printed full-colour throughout, featuring all existing fairy illustrations, plus further decorative line drawings.
