Definitely a resource worth looking to add to your collection if you are a learner of Japanese! Really loved this book. It’s a pretty big book and the beginning of it covers a lot of information such as the abbreviations used throughout, lots of grammar terminology, and some aspects of the Japanese language.

I think if you’re still pretty new to Japanese, then it would be worth going over, but if you’ve been studying for a couple months then you could probably skip this section. This book teaches parts of speech, sentence constructions, conjugation forms, speech styles and tones, accentuation rules, essential words and functional elements, and a helpful appendix for cross-referencing. There are hundreds of samples, all written in kana and kanji, followed by romaji and English translations. If you don't find what you're looking for in one of the books, there's a good chance it will be in one of the others. I don't think there's a non-slang piece of grammar that's not included, actually. That being said, most of you won't need any more than the Basic Japanese Grammar Dictionary. It contains a lot of grammar, well beyond what most beginner textbooks will offer. I'd even venture to say that most intermediate level textbooks will be covered as well. The basic dictionary covers a lot.Also useful is the brief guide to onomatopoeia, with the terms grouped by sound and a description of the general vibes those sounds often evoke and includes the verbs these words are most commonly seen with.
